2" MIL-W-17337 is a good choice for belts and gear when more strength and/or width for purposes of weight distribution is required.  At a thickness of .038 - .050 inches and a tensile strength of 2200 lbs., it's ideal for use on extra heavy duty gear.  Still quite flexible and thin for it's strength, it's a good choice for your outdoor gear project.
